What an action-packed summer it’s been for our Junior Section! We’ve had lots of fun for kids of all ages and abilities, welcoming eight new Junior members, the pro shop hosting a number of coaching sessions throughout the summer, short hole competitions, 9 hole competitions, adult & child competitions as well as our five Major Trophies giving plenty of opportunities to get out on the course.

Our Junior Team has seen tremendous success this season too. On Sunday 2nd June the team of Sam McIntyre, Ethan Harris and Sam Wilkinson won the Leeds and District Team Championship at Wooley Park Golf Club. An incredible achievement in itself, but this gained our team entry into the Yorkshire Region Finals which they also went on to win! The team of Sam McIntyre, Ethan Harris and Sam Wilkinson, winning at Thirsk & Northallerton Golf Club on 14th July to become Yorkshire Champions.

The story doesn’t end there though. The win at the Yorkshire Region Finals secured our teams place in the National Finals which were held on the 14th and 15th August at Woodhall Spa. Our tram of Grace Gill, Ethan Harris and Sam Wilkinson did Garforth GC, Leeds & District Union and the Yorkshire Union of Golf Clubs proud, finishing 13th of 32 teams who’d all won their respective County Finals.

To top off a fantastic year for our Junior Team, they also gained promotion to the top league in the Leeds and District union for next year, winning Division 2 in the process. The team throughout the season consisted of Sam McIntyre, Grace Gill, Ethan Harris, Adam Wilkinson, Sam Wilkinson, Marcos Oldfield and Lorelai Close.

A brilliant season, with more success to come in the future we’re sure of that. Well done to everyone involved, particularly to this years Captain, Steve Carlisle who gives up a lot of his spare time to help the Junior section. It’s fantastic to see such a
promising Junior Section at our club.
