A risk, reward opening hole on this short Par 4. For the shorter hitter, a well-positioned drive down the left side of the fairway avoiding the three fairway bunkers will open up the approach nicely to a narrow green that has run off areas on each side. The longer hitter can attempt to drive the green but with Out of Bounds left and trees hugging the right side of the green, it makes it a good risk and reward opening hole.
The 2nd is a good birdie chance if you get your tee shot away. Three fairway bunkers sit at 240-270 yards off the tee ready to catch your drives with Out of Bounds lurking down the left. Avoid these and you’ll have the chance to reach the green. Carr Beck runs across the approach some 80 yards short of the green, so the shorter hitter will lay up leaving a short iron into the tricky two tier McKenzie green that is well protected by a greenside bunker.
Another classic risk reward Par 4. At less than 270 yards, the green is reachable for most members. The drive is over Cock Beck to a green that sits at the top of the hill. Favour the right side of the fairway which cambers from right to left. Out of Bounds left and trees on the right make this hole no pushover, and with a sloping green from right to left, you can leave yourself an extremely fast putt down the hill.
Arguably the toughest hole on the course and some say also the signature hole, the 4th is a brute of a hole. The narrow-elevated tee shot must be spot on to avoid the forest down the left and Cock Beck that runs parallel to the fairway and all the way up around the right-hand side of the green. A long iron or wood is required into a small green, well protected by a large oak and greenside bunker.
The 1st of four strong Par 3’s. A mid to long iron is required to this narrow green well protected by two large bunkers sitting either side of the putting surface. The green itself is a real challenge, sloping back to front and right to left, you can again leave yourself an extremely fast putt.
A strong Par 4 that starts with a semi blind tee shot down the hill. Favour the left-hand side as the ball will camber down to the right. A good tee shot will leave a short to mid iron into the small green which is well protected by Cock Beck surrounding the right and back of the green. Out of Bounds lurks long left of the green, so a precise approach shot is required
A long iron or wood into a narrow two tier McKenzie green is required on this demanding Par 3. The bridle path runs parallel to the left-hand side of the green, so using the slope to feed the ball in is a popular choice. However, any shot leaking right will end up in the deep greenside bunker or run off area leaving a tricky up and down.
This slight dogleg from right to left requires a well-positioned tee shot threaded between the four fairway bunkers on either side. The longer hitter can be aggressive and take it over the corner of the trees leaving a short pitch into the green. A large green sloping from back to front with a greenside bunker front left and back right ready to catch any miss hit approach.
A generous straightaway Par 4, fairway bunkers on either side ready to catch a slightly wayward tee shot. The longer hitter can attempt to drive the green with generous conditions, but a bunker sits in the middle of the fairway at 290 yards ready to catch any miss-hit tee shot. A well protected green with bunkers on either side but a good birdie opportunity to finish the front 9.
This strong Par 4 to open up the back nine requires a dead straight tee shot to a fairway flanked by tall trees on either side. A long iron or fairway wood will be needed for the approach to this long green. A large greenside bunker front left is ready to catch your approach so favour the right-hand side and let it feed in off the slope. Any pulled approach over the bunker will feed down into the large run off area leaving a tricky up and down.
A fantastic short Par 4 where you are required to hit a long iron or fairway wood off the tee through the narrow chute of trees to a generous fairway. Carr Beck cuts across the hole at 250 yards off the tee so club selection is important. Gorse bushes and deep rough cut into the right edge of the fairway and a large pine blocks any slightly pushed tee shot so it is important to favour the left hand side of the fairway. The approach is a real challenge to this narrow two tier McKenzie green protected by bunkers on either side.
The shortest and arguably, easiest hole on the course. A short to mid iron is required to hit this small undulating green that slopes heavily from right to left. Four bunkers surround the green so a well struck tee shot is required to hit the putting surface.
The start of a challenging stretch of six holes to finish. A beautiful but scary looking Par 5 carved in the woods awaits. The tee shot is narrow, with Cock Beck cutting into the left-hand side of the fairway and a forest to the right. The longer hitter can try take on the corner of the dogleg, but anything pulled left will be heading in the beck or Out of Bounds. From here, a layup to the small tree in the middle of the fairway will leave a wedge up the green which is narrow and sits at an awkward angle. Out of Bounds lurks just over the back of the green with any slightly misjudged approach catching the back run off area.
This dogleg Par 4 is where you turn back towards the clubhouse. A demanding tee shot to the corner of the dogleg is required. The fairway is flanked by trees on either side. A short to mid iron will be needed for the approach shot to a long three tier green that slopes heavily from back to front and is protected by bunkers on either side. Out of Bounds sits just 5 yards left of the green. The ideal approach is to leave the ball under the hole, as any putt from above the hole is treacherous down the slope.
The long Par 4, 15th comes in the middle of one of the hardest finishing stretches in Yorkshire. At 441 yards from the back tees, you will need two well struck shots to reach the green. Off the tee, Out of Bounds hooks into the left edge of the fairway with trees lining the right of the hole. The 2nd shot is played up the hill over Carr Beck which lies 80 yards short of the green. A huge oak tree covers the left side of the approach so favour the right side of the fairway off the tee. The large green slopes from back to front and a greenside bunker sits front right ready to catch your approach shot. A fantastic golf hole but one that can be a real card wrecker.
The last of the Par 3’s, you tee off from the elevated tee down the hill and over Carr Beck to a narrow green well protected by three greenside bunkers. The green slopes from front to back so good distance control is required.
Another long Par 4 back up the hill at 431 yards off the back tee. A well struck tee shot is required left of the bunker to the corner of the dogleg. The longer hitters can try take on the corner of the dogleg leaving a shorter approach into the green. Forests on either side await any wayward tee shot. The approach is back towards the clubhouse where a long iron or fairway wood is required to a long narrow green. Favour the left-hand side and use the slope to feed it into the green.
The final hole of a fantastic back 9 is a real test. Again at 431 yards from the elevated back tee, you will tee off through a narrow chute of trees with Out of Bounds hugging all the way down the left-hand side of the hole. Trees and a deep fairway bunker await any tee shot flared out to the right. The approach down the hill with the clubhouse in view is another real test. A long narrow green that slopes from front to back and right to left requires an accurate approach shot to finish. With two bunkers at the front of the green, this hole requires two extremely accurate shots to finish.
